The long-anticipated Hollywood Burbank Airport Replacement Passenger Terminal is taking shape. The 355,000-square-foot terminal is a modern, passenger-focused facility that replaces the aging Terminal A. The new design draws inspiration from the San Fernando Valley’s natural landscape and cinematic heritage.
A key feature of the terminal is the ICON canopy, a dramatic and welcoming entrance for passengers. Inspired by the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, this swooping metal clad structure is supported by slender v-columns that showcase the integration of engineering and aesthetics. CAST CONNEX Architectural Tapers and Universal Pin Connectors (ART+UPC) are fitted at the ends of the supporting columns.

The ARTs taper the ends of the hollow structural section (HSS) columns, creating a sleek, refined profile that enhances the visual lightness of the canopy. The UPCs offer a clean, pinned connection that simplifies assembly and ensures consistency across the repeated column elements.
Using pre-engineered, standardized components allowed the project team to maintain Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS) quality while streamlining the fabrication process. This approach enabled efficient construction without compromising on the design intent—a critical factor in a project with a tight schedule and high public visibility.

The steel structure was topped out in January 2025, and the new terminal is set to open in 2026. With its thoughtful architecture, advanced engineering, and commitment to the passenger experience, the terminal is poised to become a significant landmark for the community.
