Project details:
- Location: Austin, TX
- Sector: Aviation
- Status: In Construction
- Budget: $164 Million
- Products Used: Custom Castings and CAST CONNEX Universal Pin Connectors (UPC)

Construction is progressing at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) as the West Gate Expansion—a major initiative under the Austin-Bergstrom Airport Expansion and Development Program (AEDP)—completes its steel structure with an intricate trussed roof. The project adds approximately 84,500 sq. ft. across three levels, including a new mezzanine, enhanced passenger amenities on the concourse level, and apron-level airline support space. The expansion also includes the replacement of 12 gate-boarding bridges and the addition of 3 new gates to accommodate ongoing and future terminal growth.
CAST CONNEX cast steel components are integral to the structural system of the West Gate Expansion. Both custom and standardized castings were specified in the trussed roof structure, enabling precise and efficient pinned and field-bolted connections—an approach that would have been difficult to achieve with fabrication alone.

By eliminating the need for field welding, CAST CONNEX connectors significantly improved constructability on site, while also enhancing the structural integrity and architectural expression of the exposed, geometrically complex trusses.
The final steel truss was installed earlier this year, marking a key milestone in the project. Construction remains on track, with completion anticipated by Spring 2026.
