Halperin Park
Halperin Park is a deck park spanning over the Interstate 35 East in Dallas, Texas, USA. Designed with a focus on community connectivity, the park reconnects the Oak Cliff neighborhood, which was dived by the construction of the interstate in the 1950s.
The park integrates sculpted landforms and hybrid mass timber structures that respond to its cultural and environmental context, all while framing views of the downtown Dallas skyline. CAST CONNEX supplied standardized Timber End Connectors (TEC) for the exposed timber elements of the multipurpose pavilion overlooking the park. These pre-engineered cast steel components streamlined fabrication and installation of the timber structure while delivering a contemporary industrial aesthetic that complements the timber columns and bracing elements throughout the pavilion.
The TEC provides a standardized, architecturally exposed connection detail that is difficult to achieve through conventional fabrication methods. This allows the timber elements of the Halpernin Park pavilion to blend seamlessly with the civic landscape while supporting the project team’s vision of reimaging freeway infrastructure as a flexible, connected public space.
