Historic Alameda High School Modernization - Central and Science Building
Built in 1924, Alameda High School (AHS) is a remarkable 100,000-square-foot historic structure. Proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places, AHS is a cherished civic and historical treasure in the Alameda, California community.
The iconic neoclassical institution graces the island city’s Central Avenue, makingit an integral part of the historic central business district. Over time,seismic building codes evolved, leading to the closure of significant portionsof the school in the 1970s to ensure the safety of the students. Afterremaining largely unoccupied for decades, the community recognized thesignificance of this historic landmark and the need to restore and retrofit it.Thus, the Alameda community embarked on one of California's most ambitioushistoric school renovation projects.

TheAlameda High School, once threatened by time and seismic vulnerability, nowstands tall and proud, serving as a civic and historical beacon in the heart ofthe city.
