80 M Street
80 M Street SE stands as a pioneering commercial office building in Washington, D.C., distinguished by its innovative use of mass timber for a vertical extension.
The enhanced features comprise both shared and private tenant outdoor terraces, known as CPT. These spaces are adorned by striking Y columns that gracefully span the entire height of the three newly added floors, creating a visually striking transformation for the updated building. The integration of CAST CONNEX® Diablo™ Bolted Splices plays a pivotal role in seamlessly realizing these sculptural elements, underscoring the building's aesthetic and structural finesse.
Designed by Hickok Cole in collaboration with Arup, this visionary project introduces a remarkable 108,000-square-foot addition, encompassing three full floors and a penthouse level enriched with additional office spaces and amenities, including a rooftop terrace.
CAST CONNEX Diablo Bolted Splices are cast steel components designed for seamless field-bolted connections in circular hollow structural section (HSS) members. These fittings position the bolted connection within the HSS's outer diameter, ensuring a streamlined appearance. Depending on the desired finish, the splice can be enclosed with a thin-gauge plate for a fully concealed look or left exposed to showcase its sleek, technical design.
