Aims Community College
The Aims Community College Welcome Center in Greeley, Colorado, serves as a dynamic hub for student engagement and campus services. Featuring an open, light-filled design, architecturally exposed structural steel creates the character of this community-based learning and event space.
To achieve the Center’s structural performance and distinctive aesthetic, the design team utilized CAST CONNEX® custom designed X-nodes and pre-engineered Universal Pin Connectors™ for the brace frames to deliver lateral strength with a seamless visual expression. A CAST CONNEX custom designed Y-node created a signature stair column that compliments the Center’s modern design language.
CAST CONNEX steel casting solutions enabled the project team to realize complex geometries with organic, sculptural forms that are difficult or costly to achieve with conventionally fabricated structural shapes. The smooth profiles of the custom and pre-engineered castings enhanced the structural integrity of framing system, created an architecturally appealing welcome space, and provided easy to clean low maintenance details that ensure the exposed structural steel remains visually striking for years to come.
