Originally opened in 1893 as Robey Station, and following a 75 year closure and years of dedicated community advocacy, the new Damen Station is a beacon of progress. Damen Green Line Station has been revived with a future-forward design resulting in a new landmark for Chicago’s Near West Side—and a powerful symbol of resilience and connectivity in urban revitalization.
The station features a striking glass-covered pedestrian bridge, supported by green steel trusses that pay homage to both the Green Line and Chicago’s historic steel bridges. The bridge integrates CAST CONNEX Diablo Bolted Splice (DBS), which played a key role in Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC). By simplifying field assembly and eliminating the need for field welding, the DBS connectors contributed to schedule certainty and enhanced worker safety.
Inside the station, the clean detailing of architecturally exposed structural steel (AESS) is brought to life with CAST CONNEX Architectural Tapers and Universal Pin Connectors (ART+UPC)—elevating both the visual impact and the performance of the space.
